How London Corporate Photographer, Charles Sturge, is Reducing His Carbon Footprint with an Innovative Lighting Solution

As a London corporate photographer, I’ve always prioritised aligning my work with the highest professional standards and a commitment to sustainability.
Recently, I made a significant investment in over £6,000 worth of professional lighting equipment. Profoto, a leader in high-quality lighting, offers the B10x Plus duo kit, which is battery-operated and delivers exceptional flash lighting capabilities. Remarkably, I’ve even managed to squeeze a third light into the same bag! My new gear is not only more efficient but also considerably lighter and more compact than my previous setup.
This upgrade has allowed me to make a substantial impact on my carbon footprint. By choosing public transport over driving, I’ve reduced my CO2 emissions by a remarkable 1,014.49kg annually, with a net saving of 716.11kg compared to driving in London. This change is more than just numbers to me; as a dad, it’s a meaningful step toward a better future. I want to show my son that small actions can make a big difference, and I believe he can probably visualise 700kg!
Another positive outcome is the improvement in air quality. London often battles pollution, and by driving less, I’m contributing to cleaner air. This isn’t just about reducing CO2; it’s about cutting down on harmful particulates that contribute to poor air quality. Knowing that my efforts are helping to create a healthier environment in our city is rewarding.
Additionally, travelling by public transport has been beneficial for my business. The cost savings have allowed me to pass on these savings to my clients, making it a win-win situation for everyone involved.
The UK is facing significant challenges in meeting its ambitious 2030 environmental targets, and I believe that businesses in London, both large and small, have a vital role to play in this effort. Even a London corporate photographer like myself can contribute meaningfully. While I wouldn’t label myself an environmentalist, I take pride in this step toward sustainability. After all, if the scientists are correct, every little bit helps.
